Me and my wrap around sling…

Has any one seen that TV program on Channel 4 called “Bringing up baby”? Well listen to this…

Today, I took E to one of these play groups and because everyone knows that E is training to enter the Jackass competition, I haven’t got enough of two hands and two eyes to look after him. Actually, I know now what it means when we say “having eyes at the back of our head” or is it a French saying? Never mind… What was I saying? oh yes, I need my two hands and two eyes to look after E, and to make my life much easier, I invested in one of those brilliant wrap around slings to carry V, and wear it while I am busy looking after E as well. It gives me a bit of a tribal edge that I love!

Mine is a Calin Bleu and I bought it because it looked right for me (and, because I was doing some patriotic support, knowing that the lady running the business is French). OK lets admit it, I didn’t know which one to choose considering the array of slings available and when you have noone who knows what you are talking about or raises eyebrows when you mention the possibility of investing in one, the choice is not that easy. Anyway, I ordered it, received it, tried it, luuuuvvv it!!

So today, I was wearing it at the play group and it never occurred to me that I never seen anyone wearing one before, so I attracted lots of interest. Lots of mothers asked me if I was following the Continuum Concept, you know the constant contact. God no! Constant contact would be far too much for me (no offense to the ones who do, it is just not for me). Anyway, I was surprised to generate such interest and I must admit maybe a little bit proud…

So after one hour of intensive “E NO, not the bouncy castle… E NO we do not eat chalk… E NO, we do not stand on Action Man’s truck with both feet, or we will FALL (too late!)… E NO I SAID NOT THE BOUNCY CASTLE!!!!” after all this, we definitely deserved food and refreshments, so off we went, my friend Liz and I, to the coffee shop.

After a nice lunch watching our two kids fighting over spoons, blackcurrants, bread and pretty much everything available we were getting ready to leave, and that man came over to me… don’t get excited, it wasn’t to offer me his phone number on a napkin, that hasn’t happened for years, or has it ever happened… ? *thinking* anyway, guess what he asked me?? Are you doing the Continuum Concept, like in that program “Bringing up Baby”? YES, even him the only man around and in a suit! And you know why he was asking this? well, because his mum was the Dr Spock’s method guru in the program… How cool is that!!

I just wanted to let you know that today, I met someone who is closely related to someone who’s been on TV… My life is sooo exciting!!!

Did you want to know a bit more on baby slings? Here are 3 links: one is an article on the benefit of baby wearing (that’s how they call it, but I must admit it sounds weird). The second one will help you choose a sling if you decide to go for one. The third is where to get mine!
