Monday tip: cherish your dreams…

I woke up this morning welcomed by a glorious sunshine (and to the sound of a very annoying toy music box playing Twinkle Twinkle in my ear… I knew I should have killed the toy ages ago!). Anyway back to the sunshine… it was glorious (I said that before) and I felt full of energy for about 25 seconds until I got out of bed and realised that my whole body was killing me, following a weekend of being horrendously sick. Anyway why do I tell you this? I don’t know because I don’t really see the analogy with what I am going to talk about today, but I suppose I just wanted to say it.

So today our Monday tip is don’t forget to keep dreaming… In France we have a saying: “without hopes and dreams there is no life”

This tip was inspired by a lady who is embarking very soon, on an amazing adventure. Her name is Melissa Talago and she has decided to fulfil a dream: sailing for 5 weeks from the UK to Brazil, as part of the Clipper Round the World Race.  Read her full and inspiring story here to find out more about her and about the race. She is asking for a very small donation to help fund this race, so if like me you find this absolutely amazing don’t forget to donate and follow her in this adventure!

So anyway, this story reminded me how important it is to live your life with dreams. There is no great invention that hasn’t started with being someone’s dream first. Dreams are what motivate us, what keep us going when the going gets tough, they help us staying focussed in the right direction…

Everyone has got different dreams, big or small the dreams we all have are like a light that guides us.

Having dreams is so important in everyone’s life that once we achieve one, we often think of the next one. Dreams evolve as we get older and dreams keep us alive!

How do you increase your chances to reach for your dreams?

1.       Start with having a very clear idea of what is your main goal is?  Take a piece of paper and write it down as clearly and precisely as you can. See the end result in your mind’s eye: what does it look like? How does it feel? How do you feel? If possible illustrate it with images and keep it in a place of easy reach.

2.       Start figuring out which are the steps you have to take to achieve this dream – what do you need to achieve this dream? How can you obtain what it takes to achieve this dream?

3.       Have a plan! Write all the steps in very clear manner and set deadlines

4.       Remember to:

a.       Be flexible – sometimes it doesn’t work the way we thought it would, so be ready to learn from it and tackle the problem from a different angle. If you stay focussed in a direction that doesn’t work, the chances are that it won’t work!

b.       Acknowledge when you are feeling low and lose your motivation – ask yourself: is it because I do not want this as much as I thought I did? Is it too difficult so I prefer giving up?

c.        Trust your instinct – sometime what we believe in, others see it as an impossible dream. Trust yourself and your feelings, if you really want it you will make it happen!

My dreams are:

  • To see my two boys grow into happy and confident individuals
  • To keep having a wonderful relationship with my husband, a loving one, full of trust, support, respect and laughter
  • To keep developing my Life Coaching business and to support mums in making their own dreams a reality

What are your dreams? Are you working towards making them a reality or secretly wishing they could come true but not quite sure how to achieve them?
