Vegetables and fruits, aren’t they most parents pet hate? Yet we are all aware of how important it is for our children to eat their 5 a day. We all want the best start in life for our children but we don’t want the daily fight that it can sometimes lead to when we become increasingly worried by the low or non existant amount of fruits and vegetable they eat.
Green Giant is asking us parents to share our best tips to help our kids eat the right nutrients they need to grow healthy and strong.
Personally I am very lucky to have boys who like lots of different fruits but when it comes to vegetable it gets more difficult. The solution I have found is making soups. They love it, so when I realise that they are not eating enough I make soups with different vegetables. It is quite easy to mix vegetables, a yummy low salt stock and a few spices and blend it. Serve it with a dash of double cream and it goes down like a treat.

Soup!
It’s simple, inexpensive and quick to make.
I pack it full of all the vegetables they won’t look at on the plate but will happily eat two bowlfuls of when blended to make a chunky soup. It’s a meal we can all share without arguments…so everybody’s happy!
One that I share with you, definitely yummy and good for everyone in the family!

My tip is learned from when my twins went through refusing veg at the same time so first take heart its not an eating problem. I struggled at first then realised if I did not relax then they would battle more. I discovered i think that its a control issue, they were finding their independence and I think I cracked it the day I put all the food in serving dishes and they were choosing and eating the veg they had been pushing away. With control over their own plate and choices they were helping themselves and it broke the issue for me. I found they were happy if they saw us choosing vegetables then they copied. Oh and if you have a friend with a toddler who eats anything get them round with the serving dishes, your children may follow their peers more after all eating is quite a social event and little ones soon want to be included in that.
That’s a great tip! Thanks for sharing
I will announce the winner soon so stay tuned
My mum started giving me and my sister very funny canapes such as carrot and banana piled together, or apple and rasins/dates – all different textures. At the beginning we would cry and eat them, but the next day we were asking for the colourful canapes. I’m sure I will be doing the same thing with my little one
