Every now and then someone catches your attention. It is almost inexplicable. For me, music has this way to trigger emotions that are sometime so intense I have to cry. I have cried at the opening song of this year’s pantomime just because I liked the song…
A while ago I discovered on Facebook via her mum’s page Zoe Bestel. I didn’t cry but I sat, mesmerised by this young yet so mature artist, who writes her own songs and plays the ukulele amazingly. I would sell one of my sons for the promise to play this well over night (unfortunately I am short on time to practice and I know it will hurt my fingers). By the way, right now and for the record, I know which one of my sons I am selling*.
Please go and check her website and listen to her song 35 Missed Calls
*As requested by my husband, I need to make sure everyone knows this is actually a joke and that no sons will be sold for the love of music, of course.
One of my favourite song at the moment is by Gotye, Somebody I used to know.
I have been listening to it quite a lot on Spotify but only yesterday I watched the video for the first time.
It totally mesmerised me. It is at the same time simple but portraying tons of emotions. The exchange between Gotye and Kimbra is full of these emotions you get when you witness two people who used to love each other starting to despise each other.
Don’t tell me that when you listen to this you are not back in some sort of late eighties. Everything brings me back: the tune, video, lyrics, the HAIR… Almost a kind of Roxette revisited, apart that she had next to no hair.
And this guy’s voice, THIS GUY’S VOICE… It surely does something to me!
Just enough cheese to make me love it all the more!
This is another discovery made while I was in France introduced by my sister. This title has a something that reminds me of Scissor Sisters. Gossip is an American Indie Rock band led by the charismatic Beth Ditto. I love it!
This holidays, whenever I heard that song playing I instantly felt in a good and happy mood, so I wanted to make it part of my “coups de coeur”. Here you go Katy Perry ft Snoop Doggy Dog with California Gurls…
This song is from an American Pop singer I didn’t know called Colbie Caillat. She is another one who made it thanks to her internet exposure on My Space and this single was originally listened to 31 million times on her page!
This has been playing quite a lot on French radio and what can I say, I love it!
Here is another Frenchie with a zest of soul and a taste of Motown. I fell head over heels with his voice so without waiting any longer here is L’oncle Ben Soul!
After my Cheesy Fridays, please let me introduce my “Thursday Coups de Coeur” just because I wanted to feature songs that I really enjoy listening to, and some of them are still a little bit cheesy of course.
Does it happen to you sometime? You are busy doing a million things and suddenly you stop to listen to something that really speaks to you? It can either be lyrics that strike a chord, a melody that brings out feelings from deep inside? Something that makes you want to dance, laugh or even cry?
Well these are my “Coups de Coeur” and being in France I would like to share some French ones with you. They are songs that I have discovered while being here and I hope you will like them too.
The first one is Joyce Jonathan. She is young, fresh and sweet and for some reason this song makes me want to smile and whistle…
