Toyologist Review – Crayola, Color Wonder and Tomy, Mr Colour Maker

Today is one of these days when you feel extremely blessed to be part of the amazing Toyologist Program.  I have two grumpy, very snotty boys at home, so we pulled out two new toys to review today in an attempt to appease tempers:

crayola color wonderCrayola, Color Wonder
Toys R Us, £15.99

It is mess free paint!! That’s right MESS FREE PAINT! how can it be possible I hear you say? well it is possible because they know some people who managed to create some magic brush, gel paint and wonder paper that if put all together will make beautiful painting. It works, the proof is that I even let them use it on the carpet as you can see below on the video, cream carpet please.

The set comes with 6 paint pots and a 30 page pad. From the video below you can see how it works but basically the pots contain a gel and the magic brush picks up the colour and I guess that’s why they call it “magic” because the gel is clear. The best thing of all is that colour only show on the wonder paper pad, which means it will not reveal itself on anything else, not even on your wall paper.

We love it! The only downside is the arguments that it started in this house. ONE paint set, ONE magic brush, TWO children with no patience, means fights and me wearing my referee hat…

I would greatly encourage you to purchase one per child if like me you have them very close in ages.

The other thing we tested this morning was the Tomy, Mr Colour Maker.

colour makerTomy, Mr Colour Maker
Toys R Us, £19.99

This is a pot of paint that comes with three small paint pots and a brush. It is aimed for the 2yrs old + and having one at home it should be a hit. Unfortunately he got bored very quickly. There are three settings and the favourite by far is the one with the rainbow song. The other setting prompt the children to use different colours and when they get it wrong it tells them which colour they have just used, which is great to teach them colours.  For some reason it is Elliott who found it more interesting.

The small pots come in three colours blue, red and yellow and we can’t help to think green is missing. Even the children wonder where it has gone.

The overall feeling is that it is a nice enough toy but it is a little bit limited on the entertainment and variety aspect, but it is most probably because both Elliott and Victor are now too old for it.

And before I leave you with the video, just a quick note to say that Toys R Us are on the hunt for more Toyologists, so if you want to be part of the program quickly head over there and apply!!

Toyologist review: Thomas Take N Play Knapford Station

We have boys and boys love trains. They love any type of trains but they particularly love “Thomas the Tank Engine”.  So when we got the Take N Play Knapford Station out of one Toyologist Box, it was something like “Wow, mum, a train station!!! A THOMAS train station!!”.

Knapford

We already have a couple accessories from this set and it is the perfect addition. What we love about these is that you can slowly build up the collection and they all fit together into the biggest set you would ever want. But not only this, on a much more practical level it folds away with all the carriages and tracks making it great to store or easy to take along anywhere you like.

So on an overall note: we love those!

Toyologist Review – Do you do night lights?

We have never used night lights until now. Actually I have always refused to get the boys used to sleeping with a night lamp for the sole reason that I didn’t want them to rely on it and miss it terribly if they didn’t have one.

When we were offered to review the Toys Story Go Glow Light as part as the Toyologist program, we thought we could give it a try.

IMG_4666 IMG_4701

Anyway it took us a couple of nights before telling them exactly what it was for. For a few days they used it to see if they could see Father Christmas’s bottom up the chimney or to look at each other tonsils.

Then one evening we decided that we wanted to test their reaction when they notice that it is not just a torch. And there has been no turning back… They love the light and to my big surprise they do not play for hours with it. They leave it on its stand and let it spread the glow while they gently fall asleep…

But I tell you why I am the one who loves it most. In the middle of the night when I need to escort one for a wee or locate the other one’s dummy there is no more stumbled toes or head-butted doors trying to find my way in the dark. I can now see what I am doing and where I am heading without waking the whole house with the landing light on.

I never realised how good it is to have a night light that’s also a torch until now…

RRP £19.99

And the winner of the Aquadoodle mat, courtesy of Toys R Us is…

Right, the moment truth is here and now!

I was going to pull the winner out of the hat, but actually I thought it would be easier to use the random generator. So if you look on the table below I have listed all your entries in the order of submission and double when applicable. Basically like this you all have one or two number assigned and if you play the video at the bottom you will see the generator in action and who is the winner.

But just before we start I wanted to say there’s been some damn fine nice words said about me and this blog. You guys are rather good at this, I have to say!

Toyologist Review – Tomy Aquadoodle Desk

Ok, so we have established how much I hate messiness by now.

I actually bought paint for Elliott when he was two years old. He is now almost four and we still haven’t opened it. Ok go on, tell me I am killing is creativity and spoiling his future… Why do you think he is going to preschool? Exactly, so that he can express his talents and enjoy painting somebody else’s floors. He loves it and all I have to do is expose the art works on the fridge. There are so many that I don’t even remember which colour my fridge is actually.

And there is the Aquadoodle Desk… Thank you for the Aquadoodle Desk!

IMG_4806 IMG_4811

The beauty of it is that I can leave the room without worrying that one of them is trying to draw on the TV. And they even play nicely. Well until one of them gets frustrated about the space limitation or the other one interfering on his space.

IMG_4812IMG_4813

They absolutely love it and so do I. I really like the fact that it is a little foam table, very easy to assemble and very light. And when one picks it up to throw it at his brother it doesn’t hurt. Yes I know this is not the purpose, but this things happen in our household. A lot.

The pad to draw on has two sides a green and an orange. When you’ve finished with one side you turn it over. When you come back to the first side and it is all dry and ready for new drawings. Genius!

A must have for families who like us (well me) don’t do painting mess and even for the ones who do but want a rest from cleaning the walls!

Toyologist review: Power Rangers RPM Performance Cycle

Toys R Us selected a number of Digital Mums from across the UK to drive their online social media activity. It’s a new programme called “Toys R Us Toyologists”. We’re a mixture of WHAM mums, full time mums, full time lawyers and more, but all of us are mums who are active within the blogosphere and social media space.
We are being given toys to try out with our kids, to review, and have been asked to share our experiences, which hopefully you will enjoy reading about!

So here is our first review…

TAAA-DAAH!

At first there was a box…

IMG_4658

And then there was love at first sight…

IMG_4667

“WOW I want THAT one!” he says picking the shiny Power Rangers box.

And the fun began!

IMG_4679

IMG_4687

Unfortunately there was a bit of disappointment, when the parts started falling off in the middle of the game

IMG_4689IMG_4688

But that didn’t stop our fun…

IMG_4675

IMG_4676

Well, maybe it did stop it a little bit and that annoyed mum and dad a little bit

IMG_4696 IMG_4694

But hey you are still my favourite out of the box!

IMG_4707

Verdict:

What Child thinks: This definitely appeals to boys, it has all the ingredients to make them love it: Superhero look, adventure, red, FIRE, the lot! Elliott already has on his Christmas list (yes Christmas! don’t get me started) the rest of the accessories and MORE of them, LOTS more. That’s what he says anyway. This is the first thing he spotted and the one he wanted immediately. He was less impressed by the bits that started falling off, I mean dropping very easily.

What parents think: We think that it is fairly good value for money for a toy so versatile. In fact if it wasn’t for all the parts being so loose and disassembling themselves so easily, we would think it is a perfect boy toy.
